My Citywax Experience

For the past few months I’ve been collaborating with the fabulous ladies at Citywax, putting a number of their most popular treatments to the test. As always, collab or not, I’ll only ever post a 100% honest review of any product/service I try out, so I’ve waited until now to share my thoughts with you all, ensuring the most accurate, insightful post possible.

Who Are Citywax?

Citywax, despite what you may take from the brand name, don’t just specialise in body/facial waxing..that’s just the start! Located on Bessboro Road, Blackrock here in Cork, the salon has been up and running for almost a decade now, with a strong workforce who are pros in waxing, HD brows, lash extensions, manicures/pedicures, facials and spray tans. On top of this, they provide the services of a makeup artist and are also expanding their haircare expertise with Kevin Murphy blowdries (and colours this space!).

The Manicure Station – chose a Gelish mani from €30, as well as a range of other nail treatments.

The Pedicure Corner – treat yourself to a Callus Peel Treatment or Gelish pedi, prices starting from €30.

The Blowdry Area – Kevin Murphy blow dries start from €25 but Citywax have a €20 June special running at the moment!

My Lash Extension Experience

No extensions VS Ms Glamorous Russian Volume extensions (€100).

I’d previously tried 1.1 mink lashes elsewhere and while I was happy with the results, I felt they didn’t give me that luscious, voluminous look I wanted to achieve. I got my first set of Russian Volume done with Citywax’s Shelley back in May, and as you can see, the finsihed look is incredible! The overall treatment took about 1 hr 45 mins, including the time taken to discuss my desired length/volume and measure my eyes. The experience as a whole couldn’t have been more enjoyable, the atmosphere that all of the ladies at Citywax create during your visit really makes you want to return. With regards to aftercare, the Russian Volume required no more effort than the more minimal 1.1 extensions – once you brush through them daily, avoid rubbing your eyes/sleeping on your face and steer clear of oil-based eye makeup removers, you should have no issue in maintaining them. The Ms Glamorous extensions are €100 for your first treatment, €65 for any refills from then onwards.

My HD Brows Experience

On my return to Citywax for my lash extension refills last week, I also got my first ever brow treatment done (yes, first one in 19 years!). The gorgeous Jacklyn measured and studied my natural brow shape before undertaking the classic HD brow treatment. It’s made up of waxing, threading and tinting the natural brows in order to maintain your desired look. As I already have dark, full brows I wanted to keep these, while making them more even and defined.

The overall procedure only took about 30 minutes but this would obviously vary, depending on how much work your brows needed. The experience was pain-free bar the few seconds when the wax strips were pulled. The redness afterwards quickly subsided and I was left with zero irritation, something that often occurs from poorly carried out waxing treatments. HD Brows at Citywax cost €35 and one must carry out a patch test 48 hrs before each treatment (ask at reception for your free patch test kit!).
