All About That Base – My Must Have Base Makeup Products

Untitled design(12)

Hey girls,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Today’s post is all about my favourite base makeup products, from concealer and foundation to powder, primer and tan. As much as I love a smoky eye and dramatic lip, I really feel a flawless base is the most important element of your makeup routine. I see the face like a painter sees a blank canvas, as a platform to be creative with, but have you ever seen an artist create a masterpiece on a blemished, unprepped canvas? I thought so. Here are my must have base products, ranging from high end cosmetics to drug store bargains. Hope you enjoy!

Foundation

I alternate between two foundations, the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in shade 21 Nude when I’m wearing tan, and the Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse in shade 103 True Ivory when I’m not. I opt for mousses because I have relatively dry skin that’s also slightly oily when I’m stressed so I find a mousse formula works well in both conditions. I’ve been using both products for a number of years so I can honestly say they’re very good, in terms of quality as well as price, they’re both in and around the €10 mark. I apply them using my NIMA Jane brush, giving my skin an airbrushed, flawless finish.

Concealer

My choice of concealer is the Sleek Corrector and Concealer Palette in shade 02. I’ve been using this for the last 4 months and it’s the best concealer I’ve ever used. The creamy formula blends so well and I can adjust the colour according to whether I’m wearing tan or not. There’s also a pressed powder included for applying on top of a spot you’ve concealed which I love. The price is also really reasonable at €10.99 from Boots.ie or Sleek’s online store. I apply my concealer using the NIMA Emma brush.

Primer

I use two primers, one for my face and one for my eyelids. The Benefit Pore Fessional primer was the first high end beauty product I ever purchased about 3 years ago. The Pro balm formula glides on, leaving your skin super smooth and prepped for foundation. It retails at around €30 which is on the steeper side but it is very effective so it’s a good investment product. On my eyes I use the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden. I absolutely swear by it! The difference it makes under your eyeshadow is incredible, zero creasing and it stays in place all day/night long. It’s also perfect to use without eyeshadow as a neutral base colour if you’re going for a more natural look. It retails at around €30 but it’s completely worth it, incredible results and you only need to use a tiny bit at a time so it lasts ages.  I apply both primers using my fingertips.

Powder

I’ve been using the Sleek Professional Finishing Powder for about a month and I find it brilliant for sealing your makeup and blotting any shine throughout the day. It retails at €10.99 and the formula is lightweight so it won’t cause breakouts. I apply the powder using the NIMA Rosie brush.

 Tan

I use my favourite tan, Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Mousse, on my face when I’m going on a night out or for an occasion. I mix a little with my daily moisturizer and apply all over my face, avoiding the eye area. It’s oil-free so no need to worry about getting a breakout, woo! Thanks to the lovely Kate for her facial tanning tips.
